In the final home game of the 2024 season, the Aggies took on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and posted a 6-0 shutout victory behind senior pitcher Emily Dix, who recorded nine strikeouts. The Aggies are currently the 4the placed in the Conference USA standings with only three games remaining.

Before the first pitch, the seniors were recognized and accompanied by their families, with their jersey numbers painted on the field throughout the weekend.

After the brief ceremony, the Aggies got the evening started defensively with Dix on the mound for the final time in the regular season. Starting with a solid defensive effort, Dix and the Aggies entered the bottom of the first inning on three quick outs following a leadoff walk.

The Aggies were quick to get the offense going when senior Jillian Taylor reached base after being hit by a pitch and then was brought home on senior Jessica Carreon’s RBI double, putting the Aggies on the board to stand. Continuing the hot start, junior Dezianna Patmon and redshirt senior Riley Carley each hit a solo home run to give the Aggies a three-run inning to start the game.

The Aggies and the Bulldogs easily exchanged three outs over the next two innings before the Aggies took the batter’s box and delivered another three-run inning in the bottom of the fourth. After being hit by a pitcher during her first at bat, Jillian Taylor hit a three-run home run to left center to secure a 6–0 lead for her team. Carreon reached first base on a throwing error before the Bulldogs ended the fourth inning.

The Aggies’ defense picked up where they left off to start the fifth. After walking the first two batters, Emily Dix struck out two consecutive batters and was able to get the third out with a flyball into foul territory.

Entering the bottom of the fifth inning, the Aggies were able to get runners on base with two singles, but two early outs and a strikeout ended the inning and the game, with the final two innings showing similar results.

Emily Dix’s performance led to her being named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week. She allowed just two hits in eight total innings pitched during the series and leads all-time Aggie pitchers this season with 59 strikeouts, ending her final home game of the regular season on a high note.

“I think it’s crazy of me to even say I’m a senior,” Dix said. “This is great, I’m glad I was able to play for so long.”

Other seniors shared their thoughts on what playing for New Mexico State was like.

“The strong bond we create is so strong that those bonds will last a lifetime,” Taylor said.

The Aggies now travel to Murfreesboro, Tennessee to take on Middle Tennessee State to play the final series of the regular season, beginning on Friday, May 3 at 5:00 PM, followed by Saturday at 3:00 PM and ending on Sunday, May 5 at 11:00 AM . updates will be posted on the official NMSU Athletics website.
