Walmart has taken delivery of a Tesla Semi, as spotted in California

Walmart has apparently taken delivery of a Tesla Semi, as one of the electric semi-trucks was spotted on a California highway this weekend.

X user Accelerating Tech posted photos on Saturday of a Walmart-branded Tesla Semi, as spotted a day earlier in Stockton, California. In addition to the Semi pulling a Walmart trailer, the Tesla cab is branded with the text “Walmart Transportation LLC,” suggesting the retailer has officially taken delivery of the vehicle as Tesla expands pilot programs after initial deliveries to PepsiCo in 2022.

The news comes after Dan Priestley, Tesla Senior Manager of Semi-Truck Engineering, last month posted a thank you to new customers at Martin Brower, who also started driving a Semi. Walmart also has a pending order with Tesla for hundreds of Semi units, although this is the first time Tesla has delivered them.

The Tesla Semi has shown some promising results in early pilot programs at Pepsi, with the vehicle traveling more than 1,000 miles in one day in one test.

At the time of writing, neither Walmart nor Tesla have responded from Teslarati requests comment on volume or other specific delivery details.

Tesla has been generally quiet about the Semi program since it initially delivered about 20 units to Pepsi in 2022. In December 2023, Tesla Vice President of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy said the total Semi fleet had reached almost 100 units.

During its first-quarter earnings call last week, Tesla said more Semi deliveries are expected in late 2025, while the company expects to begin remote customer deliveries in 2026. Additionally, Tesla broke ground in January on expansions of its Gigafactory Nevada, which will help increase semi-production and production of the 4680 battery cell.
