Local waters are stocked with 3,200 rainbow trout this month

The following is a press release from the Idaho Dept. or Fish and Game.

SALMON – Anglers will be able to catch approximately 3,200 freshly stocked rainbow trout from area fishing holes in May.

Stocking all waters is provisional and dependent on circumstances. Dates are subject to change due to weather conditions or staffing restrictions.

Visit the Idaho Fish Planner for maps of these fishing locations and other fishing destinations in Idaho.

Many of the marked waters are easily accessible, family-friendly fishing destinations. All you need to get started is a fishing license and some basic equipment. Annual fishing licenses for adults cost about $30, junior licenses (ages 14-17) cost $16, and youth under 14 fish for free. Click here to purchase a license.

Fishing for stocked rainbow trout, especially in community ponds, is a great way to introduce new anglers to the sport by using simple (and relatively economical) setups such as worm/marshmallow combinations or commercial baits such as Power Bait or Crave, either near the bottom or under a bobber. The Learn to Fish web page provides diagrams for basic bait installations.

Most Idaho waters are open to fishing year-round, but some waters may have slightly different rules. Be sure to pick up a current copy of the Idaho Fishing Seasons and Rules Booklet, which details season dates, special regulations and bag limits, at all Idaho Fish and Game offices or most sporting goods stores statewide.
