10-year-old Maryland boy attacked by shark in Bahamas during ‘Shark Tank’ expedition

A shark bit a 10-year-old Maryland boy who was vacationing in the Bahamas on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The attack happened around 4 p.m. ET on Paradise Island while the boy was “participating in a shark tank expedition at a local resort,” Royal Bahamas police said in a statement.

He was taken to hospital and listed as stable.

Police Commissioner Chrislyn Skippings told NBC News on Tuesday that she could not explain what protective measures were in place on the “Shark Tank” expedition.

“I’m a police officer on the island and I’ve never been to the aquarium they’re talking about. As far as how it’s set up, you’ll have to talk to the resort staff,” said Skippings, who declined to name the resort to give.

Atlantis Paradise Island appears to offer a snorkeling program where customers can “come alongside sleek sharks, spotted rays and brilliantly colored tropical fish in this underwater environment.”

The resort did not immediately respond to a message Tuesday afternoon.
