Report: Former Kansas Secretary of State Dai Dai Ames commits to Virginia

Former State of Kansas point guard Dai Dai Ames determined Virginia, according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.

Ames spent one season in Manhattan last year as a freshman. During that time, he played in 31 games for the Wildcats, including starts in just over half of those with 16.

While at K-State, Ames averaged 5.2 points, a pair of assists and 1.1 rebounds. He did this while shooting 35.3% from the field and 32.9% from three.

Ames had several decent performances with the Wildcats this past season. His best, however, proved to be his last, after he scored 16 points (6-8 FG, 4-5 from three) with five assists and three rebounds in a 91-82 loss to Iowa in the opening round of the NIT.

As a member of the Class of 2023, Ames was a four-star recruit from Chicago (Ill.) Kenwood Academy, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average using all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 2 overall prospect in the state, the No. 14 point guard in the class and the No. 67 overall prospect in the class.

Ames was Kansas State’s top recruit for their No. 25 class in the previous recruiting cycle. He arrived along with a few other four-stars in RJ Jones and Macaleab Rich.

Ames was the final portal transaction for the Wildcats of the offseason, including their fifth departure. Ames joins Jones as members of their recruiting class to transfer from the program. Cam Carter, Dorian Finister, Jerrell Colbert and Ques Glover also participated.

As for additions, Kansas State has added four quality pieces to the portal so far. Dug McDaniel (Michigan)C.J. Jones (UIC)and Brendan Hausen (Villanova) are the trio of guards entering. The most recent was F Baye Fall (Arkansas) during the weekend. McDaniel is the most impactful of that quartet as the No. 25 transfer overall and the No. 5 PG according to On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players.
